Consumer Reports Anti Wrinkle Creams

Use of Alpha Hydroxy Acids in anti wrinkle creams started to become extremely popular in the early 90’s with concern about over exposure to the sun reaching a high. Alpha Hydroxy Acids are natural and found in certain milk products as well as various fruits. Due to their being a natural substance, it was always assumes that their use was perfectly safe.

However, recently it has been thought that skin previously exposed to acid peels, whether they are natural or not, could possibly be more sensitive to UV rays and the risk of cancer associated with this exposure to the sun.

As wrinkles are a result of dead, dry surface skin cells that deteriorate and are not hydrated and plump, alpha hydroxy acid control solutions remove this dead skin and give younger, new skin life. This is a topical solution that removes the signs of dead skin, but, natural aging reduces the life of the skin cell’s ability to keep its vitamins, elastin and collagen.

Other repetitive facial gestures caused by squinting, smile lines, frown lines, eyebrow lines, are often deeper in the skin and often in the underlying muscles, which cause the skin cells to lay in a ripple effect over time, like other topical anti-aging creams and anti-wrinkle creams, alpha hydroxy acids may be a temporary fix as they can only affect the upper levels of the skin cell arrangements.

Alpha Hydroxy acids are an exfoliate that remove the outer dead skin to bring newer skin cells to the surface. These newer skin cells are free of the finer lines that first start to surface. However, some people could be sensitive to Alpha Hydroxy acid treatments and this could result in redness, blistering or itchiness which can worsen.

It is vital to understand if this is a good method to select for anti-aging creams or anti-wrinkle creams, based on an individual’s skin type. A person that already has dry skin, this could case more dryness in the skin and more flakiness, the person in question may require a hydrating or moisturizing cream treatment instead. If you do not have a dermatologist recommendation to try alpha hydroxy acids, you might want to check that this is the proper method for you, instead of deep moisturizing treatments.

There are many Alpha Hydroxy acid treatments that are sold in the form of microdermabrasion kits. These treatments remove the thin outer layer of skin with a chemical peel. The chemical peel is then followed with a neutralizer that will cease the acid action. This is then followed by either a moisturizer, anti aging cream or anti wrinkle cream depending on what product you choose.

This treatment will give the appearance of younger skin, but is only a temporary fix. Prices will vary with all products and the saying ‘you get what you pay for’ does not necessarily apply to skin care. It is best to do some research into what works best, perhaps taking into account things like testimonials. Remember to stop if there is any redness, flakiness or itchiness that lasts more than 2 or 3 days.
